A total of 10 teams are participating in IPL 2022, so far, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals (DC), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Mumbai Indians (MI), Punjab Kings (PBKS), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Royal Challengers The IPL matches were played between 8 teams namely Bangalore (RCB), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has added two new owners to the IPL this year in the form of Lucknow and Ahmedabad.
The RPSG team, led by Sanjeev Goenka, who was the owner of Rising Pune Super Giants in IPL 2016 and IPL 2017, acquired the Lucknow team rights through an electronic bidding process for two new owners for IPL 2022. The team was named the Lucknow Super Giants.
The ownership of the Ahmedabad team for IPL 2022 has been auctioned off by CVC Capital Group, which has been investing in India and abroad for many years. Ahmedabad team will be known as Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL series.
IPL 2022, for the first time in IPL history, will feature 74 matches with a total of 10 teams. With the IPL being held in the United Arab Emirates for the past two years due to the bad COVID-19 situation in India, the BCCI is fully prepared to bring the tournament back to India this year.
The IPL auction 2022 will be held in Bangalore today (February 12) and tomorrow (February 13). The auction starts at 11am. All the team officials from 10 different teams are participating in it. Prior to the 2022 IPL auction, the BCCI set some rules regarding the retention of players for all owners. 90 crore for each of the 10 teams to build their own teams.
According to the rules, all the 8 teams in the existing IPL system can retain a maximum of 4 players before the auction, with each team not retaining more than 3 Indian players and no more than 2 foreign players. The BCCI has approved 2 new teams to retain 3 players from the 8 old teams who were eliminated.
The Lucknow Super Giants team, along with KL Rahul, Marcus Stones and Ravi Bishnoi, retained the Gujarat Titans ahead of Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan and Schubman Gill in the IPL auction before 2022. Lucknow Super Giants have named Rahul as captain of the Indian Premier League in 2022 and Hardik Pandya as captain of the Gujarat Titans.
As per the rules laid down by the BCCI, the following expenses were incurred at the rate of Rs 90 crore per player retained by the owners before the 2022 IPL auction.
If a team retains 4 players
Total cost of retention: Rs 42 crore
Player 1: Rs 16 crore
Player 2: Rs 12 crore
Player 3: Rs. 8 crore
Player 4: Rs. 6 crore
If a team retains 3 players
Total cost of retention: Rs.33 crore
Player 1: Rs 15 crore
Player 2: Rs 11 crore
Player 3: Rs. 7 crore
If a team retains 2 players
Total cost of retention: Rs 24 crore
Player 1: Rs 14 crore
Player 2: Rs. 10 crore
If a team retains 1 player
Player: Rs 14 crore
Also, for the first time, the BCCI did not allow owners to have a Right to Match (RTM) card in the 2022 IPL auction.
